Pulverize That Eye Puffiness!

When it comes to beauty maintenance, we often tend to overlook our eyes. Puffy eyes are one eye problem that nobody enjoys, and it can be caused by a number of factors, including stress, lack of sleep and poor diet. If you’re tired of seeing your eyes in such a sorry state, here are 10 easy tips that you can do at home to reduce eye puffiness and irritation!

1)     Increase intake of Vitamin E, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids to maintain eye health. These nutrients help to improve the function of eye muscles, blood vessels and nerves, protect retina cells and prevent macular degeneration and dry eyes.

      2)     Conversely, reduce your salt intake to avoid getting puffy eyes. Avoid salt-laden foods like greasy fries, instant ramen and pretzels. Your eyes won’t thank you for that midnight McDonald’s run in the morning!

      3)     For puffy eyes, lay cool cucumber slices over your eyelids for 10 to 15 minutes. Cucumber contains antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and helps soothe strained eyes. You can eat the leftover slices!

      4)     If you’ve got no time to put cucumber slices over your eyes, a splash of cold water is an excellent and quick alternative. Rinse your face with several splashes of cold water for around ten seconds after you wake up and throughout the day if need be. The coldness will constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling and keep you energized. No need for that shot of caffeine!

      5)     Giving yourself a light eye-massage also helps to relieve puffiness. Close your eyes and gently move your ring finger underneath your eye in an arc shape from the inside corner to the outside corner. Massage 10 to 15 times before you repeat on the other eye. This can be a great follow-up to your morning splash of cold water!

      6)     Whether or not you have a black eye, a bag of ice wrapped in a compress and pressed gently to your eyes can also help reduce swelling and puffiness. Keep it on for 10 to 15 minutes and remove. Follow up with a light message if necessary.

      7)     Use a collagen mask! Collagen is the main structural protein found in connective body tissue and gives young skin its firm, supple appearance. Collagen can now be found in several forms, such as eye masks like the Acymer Collagen Eye Mask that are designed to concentrate only on the tender skin around the eyes, hydrating and nourishing the eyes and slowing down aging.

      8)     Potatoes can be used for eye problems involving irritation or inflammation. Grate a potato, wrap the pulp in a cloth and press over your eyes to treat. The starch in potatoes has anti-inflammatory properties that ease irritated eyes.

      9)     Avoid allergens by washing your pillows and bedsheets regularly with hot water and keeping dusty things out of your bedroom, including furry pets! Allergens like pollen and dust mites irritate the eye and can cause puffiness and swelling.

     10)  Get some shut-eye! Although this one may seem obvious, getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night helps regenerate and repair facial tissue and prevents puffiness from occurring.
